The Silence Above

Seek out the diamonds that
pierce the mesosphere and
ask them if our fates intertwine
(Do so with an open heart.)
Untangle your limbs in a
whirling waltz as
hailstones blossom around us
(Is there room for two?)

And when the time comes
for our footprints to melt away
with the ivory dunes of our youth
When the time comes
for you to soar away
on the wings of a newborn swallow
We’ll know the mandate of the stars
(Yet I pray you’ll leave me a dance
or two.)
