New York City

What beauty lies in the
city lights;
they flicker in the
blessed darkness
like so many fireflies
bursting from your amaranthine eyes.

I taste the melancholy
in your cologne;
it stains my lips blue with the
bittersweet tonic
of tears unshed
and words unsaid.

Skyscrapers race
to choke the horizon
and pillage the stars;
they are no match for
your dreams of glory,
your flights of fantasy

—neither am I.
